Know Your Rights

Updated: Apr 28

You have rights

Everyone in the United States has certain rights guaranteed under the U.S. Constitution, regardless of immigration status.

Although you cannot control your interaction with immigration or law enforcement, you can prepare for these interactions by understanding what your fundamental rights are, and how to use them to advocate for yourself.

  • Download printable “Know Your Rights” graphics in English, Spanish, and 10 other languages to share with your community.

  • View a “Know Your Rights” booklet for in-depth information about what to do in interactions with ICE and law enforcement in your home, car, and workplace. This includes examples of what a valid judicial warrant looks like.

  • Print a Family Preparedness Plan to ensure your family has a plan in case of an immigration emergency. Available in English, Spanish, Chinese, Korean, and Arabic.

  • Find non-profit legal service providers in Georgia.

  • Know how you can prepare as an employer. Visit the link for additional languages- Chinese, Korean, Spanish, and Thai.

Migrant Worker's Rights

  • Migrant workers have the right to be paid the applicable minimum wage for all hours worked.

  • You have the right to be paid on time.

  • You have the right to a safe work environment. One can report unsafe, unhealthy, or hazardous working conditions with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 1-800-321-6742.

  • An employer may try to intimidate you and say if you report them, they will fire you but that is illegal. If you think you have been retaliated against for filing a claim you can call OSHA at 1-800-321-6742, the Wage and Hour Division at 1-866-487-9243, or the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission at 1-800-669-4000.
